Jill Pogach Michaels, the founder and Chairman of both Jill Pogach Michaels Law and Michaels Title & Escrow, began her legal career as a litigator for one of the region’s most prestigious law firms, Saul Ewing after graduating with Honors from The George Washington School of Law in Washington, D.C. Ms. Michaels is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Maryland and Washington D.C., and the U.S. District Court of Maryland.
With a passion for real estate law, in June 2007, Ms. Michaels began pioneering legal work in the area of loss mitigation for homeowners. Since then, she has successfully negotiated over 15,000 short sales throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. She continues to lead a team of top attorneys with tremendous success obtaining loan modifications, motions to stay, and other foreclosure defenses, plus general litigation as well as residential and commercial contract leases and disputes. Her other company, Michaels Title & Escrow, conducts residential and commercial settlements. However, her legal reach extends well beyond real estate to many other areas of law, even including criminal defense. Indeed in 2018, Ms. Michaels was recognized for excellence in Criminal Defense.
On the real estate front, Ms. Michaels was recognized in both 2018 and 1017 in Real Estate Law by Lawyers of Distinction as one of the Top 10% of lawyers in the United States. In 2016, she received the Client Distinction Award and was recognized as one of the Top Lawyers in Maryland for highest in ethical standards and professional excellence. She is also a proud member and active participant in the Greater Capital Area (GCAAR) and Prince Georges County (PGCAR) Associations of Realtors.® Ms. Michaels was recently named GCAAR Affiliate of the Year for her valuable teaching, training and dedication. She has served on the GCAAR and PGCAR Education Committees, and the Contracts and Clauses Committees, whose role is to draft and revise the contracts for real estate agents in Maryland and Washington, D.C. Ms. Michaels also served on the Property Management Committee for GCAAR and instructs hundreds of Realtors® on The Maryland and NAR Code of Ethics.
Ms. Michaels teaches continuing education for lawyers on real estate, loss mitigation and foreclosure defense for the Maryland and County Bar Associations. She has taught a joint Family Law and Real Property Sections course on loss mitigation and was published in the July 2013 issue of the Maryland Bar Journal for an article entitled, “2013: Practical Implications of Short Sales and Loss Mitigation.”
It is Ms. Michaels’ belief that helping others in a meaningful way is vital to the practice of law and the community. Ms. Michaels and her firm were featured for Excellence in Foreclosure Prevention and her participation in the Maryland Pro Bono Foreclosure Prevention Project in the Maryland Bar Journal.
